Wednesday Random Round-up

Every Wednesday I'm going to put myself through the torture of writing an entry involving one each of the following random things: odd fact, video, quote, picture, knee slapper/groaner, and a lesson learned.  If anybody else would like to participate (you would have to be crazy), link to your post below.  Who knows... we might all learn something from each other and have some fun along the way.

1.  Odd Fact: The guy who decided a sideways 8 should be the mathematical sign for infinity (John Wallis) had horrible insomnia.  One night, as he lay awake in bed, he mentally calculated the square root of a 53 digit number.

2.  Video: This video went viral quite some time ago.  I just learned of it's existence today....

...still laughing

3. Quote:  "The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but to those who see it coming and jump aside."  -- Hunter S. Thompson

4.  Picture:  Just a random shot of the cookbook shelf near my PC

5.  Knee Slapper/groaner:  A baby seal walked into a club....

6.  Lesson Learned:  If it's 10:00 at night, a copper pipe in the basement develops a leak, and all stores that sell plumbing goods are closed, you can temporarily fix it like this....

This actually did happen tonight.  It's lucky I happened to be doing laundry in the basement and was able to notice this leak before it could do major damage.  (bonus lesson learned:  Mac's convenience store and the gas station 4 blocks from my house do not sell duct tape, PVC tape, or 1/2" copper couplings)
